Tropical surf resort in El Paredon, Guatemala

Welcome to Hidden Wave!

We are a casual, family-run surf resort. Our beachfront property is located on beautiful El Paredon beach, with some of the least crowded surf in all of Central America. We are centrally located with everything you need within a 5 minute walk.

Our small resort has six casitas in a large tropical garden, with a beautiful pool and large breezy kitchen and dining area.

Hidden Wave is perfect for anyone wanting to explore a beautiful, off-the-beaten-track beach town in a friendly, family-run environment. Surfers love our empty beach break, only 30 seconds away, and everyone loves sunsets on the beach and days spent relaxing by our pool. Perfect for couples, solo travellers, families, and friends. All are welcome 🙂

Enjoy the privacy of your own casita or meet fellows guests in the communal kitchen or by the pool. We are always around to make sure you are enjoying your stay and to recommend the best ways to explore our beach and Guatemala!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions 2024/2025

Our beachfront property is large and green, which means you have space to spread out an enjoy the palm trees and plants, and our big pool. We are steps from the ocean. We have a large kitchen which is fully equipped, making it easy for you too cook your own meals when you like. We are a fully staffed hotel, with someone always available to help you.  Everything you need in town you can walk to from our great location.

Our beachfront property is less than 100m from the waters edge.

Surf lessons are 150 Quetzales per per person for a one hour lesson.

Board rentals are 100 Quetzales for 24 hours.

We are 2.5 hours from the Guatemala City airport, and can arrange private transportation from the airport to our door.

We offer shuttle service between our hotel and Antigua (leaving at 9am and 3pm, for 110 Quetzales per person), the airport (9 am and 3pm, for 250 Q per person), Panajachel (8 am, for 190 Q per person) and San Pedro at Lago Atitlan (9am for 210 Q per person).

We also have a driver who can offer you private transportation from the airport at anytime for 800 Q for 1-2 people, and 1000 Q for 3 or 4 people.

Private transportation to Antigua is 700 Q for 1-2 people.

Private transportation to Panajachel or San Pedro at Lago Atitlan is 1000 Q for 1-2 people.

All shuttles and private transportation is paid in Quetzales, the local currency.

We are a 30 second walk from the surf. El Paredon is a big beach break with lots of space to spread out – you can find uncrowded or even empty waves. Waves break left and right. There is something for beginner to advanced surfers, but we do recommend lessons if you are a beginner. The waves can be powerful.

December to April is dry season and the best time to surf.

We have a very flexible policy – full refund up to 24 hours before check in (e.g. you can cancel up to 3pm the day before arrival).  After that there is no refund.

We are a family with 3 kids and we have designed our property with families in mind! It is a great place to explore. Do be prepared that the Pacific Ocean can be quite strong and it is usually not safe for children to swim in the ocean here, due to strong currents and waves.

We do not allow dogs or any pets.

You don’t need a to rent a car for most travel in Guatemala unless you want to stop and explore a lot of smaller places.

There are shared tourist shuttles to most places you would want to go across the country, and private transportation is easy and inexpensive if you don’t want to share or want to set your own schedule. We can help you arrange both shared shuttles and private transport.

El Paredon is a small fishing village with great surf that was quite isolated until about 6 years ago. The world is slowly discovering El Paredon but so far it is still quite unspoiled.

There are small simple grocery stores, restaurants (both local style and some in hotels) and bars, small shops, and an ATM, all within walking distance. The water (both the ocean and mangrove river) are the center of life.

Cash – there is an ATM at the Super 24 here in El Paredon and most local businesses only accept Quetzales (the local currency). You can also take out cash at the ATMs at the airport.

For surfers – you might want to bring your board as there is not a large selection here in town (though we do have boards here that we rent, mostly long boards).

Sunscreen, sandals, a good book and your bathing suit.

There is lots to do for non-surfers, starting with enjoying our pool and tropical garden. The beach is long and great for exploring, and has beautiful sunsets everyday. We are a 10 minute walk from the mangrove river, where you can take a traditional canoe or SUP tour. Horseback riding on the beach, yoga classes, turtle tours, local cooking classes, fishing (both river and deep sea) are just some of the activities to keep you busy in our fishing and surfing paradise.

The turtle hatching season will be November to beginning of December 2024. After hatching season, you can still see the fully grown turtles in their natural habitat at the the river all year long (tours available).

The reason we choose Guatemala for our surf resort is because there is such a rich culture and so much to explore. Some of our top recommendations are Antigua (beautiful colonial city), Tikal (the best Mayan site in Central America), Lago Atitlan (beautiful crater lake surrounded by indigenous villages to explore), and further away Semuc Champey and Lanquin (jungle area but quite remote). We can help you plan an itenerary.

Check in is at 3pm, and check out is 11am.

If you arrive before check in, you can use the property (pool, kitchen, hammocks, washrooms etc) until your room is ready. You can also use the property after you have checked out of your room until 3pm on the day you leave.
